The Annapurna region has the most developed network of trekking lodges in Nepal. In most villages you'll find several family-run teahouses with clean rooms, hot showers and long menus, and the Gurung and Thakali families who run them are famous for their hospitality.
Quick answer: on Annapurna treks you stay in teahouses in every village. Lodges are comfortable on the lower trails, at places like Ghandruk, Ghorepani and Chhomrong, and simpler near Annapurna Base Camp and Thorong Phedi. In many villages, menu prices are agreed by the local lodge committee.
Ghorepani Poon Hill and Ghandruk
Ghorepani and Ghandruk have some of the most comfortable lodges in the region, many with en-suite rooms and mountain views from the dining room. See our Poon Hill trek and Ghandruk trek.
Annapurna Base Camp trail
| Stop | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Chhomrong, Jhinu Danda | Good lodges; hot springs below Jhinu Danda |
| Bamboo, Dovan, Deurali | Simpler lodges in the forest and gorge |
| Machhapuchhre Base Camp and ABC | Basic lodges, shared rooms in peak season, cold nights |
In the upper sanctuary, lodges are limited and fill up fast in October and April; we book ahead for our groups. See our Annapurna Base Camp trek.
Annapurna Circuit
On the Annapurna Circuit, lodges in Manang are comfortable, with bakeries and cafés. Higher up, at Thorong Phedi and High Camp, rooms are basic and cold. Across the pass, Muktinath, Marpha and Jomsom have good lodges.
Mardi Himal and Khopra
Lodges on the Mardi Himal ridge and at Khopra are smaller and simpler, with outstanding views.
What to expect
- Twin rooms with blankets; bring a sleeping bag or liner.
- Hot showers (often solar), charging and Wi-Fi, sometimes for a fee.
- Menus with dal bhat, Gurung bread, pasta, pizza and apple pie.
