Rani Pokhari ("queen's pond") is a large rectangular pond in the heart of Kathmandu, near Ratna Park. King Pratap Malla built it in 1670 to console his queen after their son's death. A causeway leads to the white Balgopaleshwar temple in the middle. It was damaged in 2015 and has been restored.

Quick answer: The pond is open to visitors during the day. It is a short walk from Asan and Dharahara.
