Far from the tourist trail in western Nepal, Khaptad is a rolling plateau of meadows, forests and wildflowers with a peaceful, spiritual atmosphere.
Quick answer: Khaptad National Park was established in 1984, on the advice of the hermit Khaptad Baba, who lived and meditated here for decades; his ashram is near the park headquarters. The plateau, around 3,000 m, is reached on a multi-day trek from the far-western hills. It sees very few foreign visitors.
