Phakding is a village of lodges at about 2,610 m beside the Dudh Koshi, a gentle 3–4 hour walk down from Lukla. Most trekkers on the Everest Base Camp trek spend their first night here.

Quick answer: The short walk from Lukla to Phakding is mostly downhill and helps acclimatisation. Visit the small Rimishung monastery and rest for the long climb to Namche the next day.
