The Gokyo Lakes are a chain of turquoise glacial lakes in the Everest region, lying beside the Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in Nepal, beneath the south face of Cho Oyu. The lakes are protected as a Ramsar wetland. The village of Gokyo (4,790 m) sits on the shore of the third lake, below Gokyo Ri (5,357 m), one of the best Everest viewpoints in Nepal.

Quick answer: Gokyo (4,790 m) is reached on a 12–14 day trek from Lukla, or combined with Everest Base Camp via Cho La or Renjo La. Climb Gokyo Ri at sunrise for views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu. Best time: October–November, March–May.
