For many climbers, Yala Peak is the perfect introduction to Himalayan mountaineering: accessible, not too technical, and set in the beautiful Langtang Valley.
Quick answer: Yala Peak is about 5,732 m (some sources give lower figures). It is one of the easier trekking peaks in Nepal, climbed from Kyanjin Gompa on the Langtang trek, with views of Langtang Lirung and Shishapangma in Tibet. Trips take about 12–14 days.
The climb
After trekking up the Langtang Valley to Kyanjin Gompa and acclimatising on Kyanjin Ri, climbers move to Yala base camp and make the summit push over rock and snow, using crampons on the upper section.
Skills needed
Good fitness, previous trekking experience, and basic crampon and rope skills, which guides teach before the climb.
Best time
October–November and March–May.
