Thorong La, at 5,416 m, is the high point of the Annapurna Circuit, linking the Manang valley with Muktinath and the Kali Gandaki. Crossing it is the most memorable day of the trek: a pre-dawn start, a long climb in thin air past prayer-flag-covered cairns, and then a long, steep descent of more than 1,600 m to Muktinath.
Quick answer: Most trekkers start from Thorong Phedi (about 4,450 m) or High Camp (about 4,880 m) before dawn, reach the pass in 3–5 hours and descend to Muktinath (about 3,800 m). Acclimatise in Manang first. Snow can close the pass, especially in winter; best in October–November and March–May.
