Thame, at about 3,820 m, lies in the quiet Bhote Koshi valley west of Namche Bazaar, on the old trade route towards the Nangpa La and Tibet. Its monastery, built against a cliff above the village, hosts a Mani Rimdu festival in spring. Thame is also known as the home village of many famous climbers; Tenzing Norgay spent part of his childhood here.

Quick answer: Thame is about 3–4 hours from Namche on foot, and a stop on the Renjo La and Three Passes routes. Visit the monastery and enjoy a valley that sees far fewer trekkers than the main EBC trail.
