Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park protects the forested hills on the northern rim of the Kathmandu Valley, with a separate section on Nagarjun hill to the west. Its highest point, Shivapuri, is about 2,732 m. The park supplies much of Kathmandu's water and is the source of the sacred Bagmati River at Baghdwar.
Quick answer: Popular hikes start at Sundarijal or Budhanilkantha. Walk to Nagi Gompa nunnery, Baghdwar or the summit of Shivapuri for Himalayan views. An entry fee applies. Go early on clear mornings, October–April.
