The Shipton La, at about 4,200 m, together with the nearby Keke La, carries the Makalu Base Camp trek from Khongma Danda into the Barun valley. On clear days the passes reveal Makalu, Chamlang and, far to the east, Kanchenjunga. It is named after the explorer Eric Shipton.
Quick answer: Snow can linger in spring and late autumn; check conditions and carry microspikes.
