Phortse is a Sherpa village at about 3,840 m on a terrace above the Dudh Koshi, facing Tengboche across the valley. Many of its families include renowned Everest climbers and guides, and it is home to the Khumbu Climbing Center, which trains Nepali climbers.

Quick answer: Phortse lies on a quieter trail between the Gokyo and Everest Base Camp valleys. Stop for lunch or a night on a Three Passes or Gokyo loop.
