Nepalgunj, in Banke district near the Indian border, is the main city of Nepal's mid-western Terai and the air hub for remote mountain districts. Small planes fly from here to Simikot, Jumla and Talcha for Rara. The Bageshwori temple is the city's main shrine.

Quick answer: Fly to Nepalgunj from Kathmandu in about an hour. Bardia is about 2 hours by road. It is hot from April to June.
