The National Botanical Garden, established in 1962, lies at Godavari at the foot of Phulchowki, about an hour south-east of central Kathmandu. Its gardens, glasshouses and streams display Nepal's plants, including orchids, ferns, cacti and medicinal herbs.

Quick answer: Allow 2–3 hours, or combine with a hike up Phulchowki. Weekdays are quieter than Saturdays, when families picnic. An entry fee applies.
