On 24 February 2016, Tara Air Flight 193, a DHC-6 Twin Otter flying the short mountain route from Pokhara to Jomsom, lost contact eight minutes after take-off. The wreckage was found near the village of Dana in Myagdi district. All 23 people on board were killed.

The Jomsom route

Flights between Pokhara and Jomsom follow the deep Kali Gandaki gorge between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna, one of the most demanding mountain routes in the world. They operate only in the morning, before strong valley winds develop, and are often cancelled in poor weather.
