Nepal marked Global Tiger Day on 29 July 2026 with more good news for conservation. The National Tiger and Prey Base Survey 2026 estimated 429 wild tigers, up from 355 in 2022 and nearly four times the 121 counted in 2010. The survey ran from December 2025 to July 2026 and was led by the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation and the Department of Forests and Soil Conservation, supported by conservation partners.
In short: Nepal now has an estimated 429 tigers: 145 in Chitwan, 112 in Bardia, 71 in Parsa, 51 in Banke and 50 in Shuklaphanta. Conservationists warn that rising numbers bring more human–tiger conflict.
