The Pikey Peak trek is one of Nepal's best-kept secrets: a short trek in the lower Everest region, reached by road, with a sunrise panorama that includes Everest.
Quick answer: Pikey Peak is about 4,065 m. The trek takes around 5–8 days from Kathmandu by road, through Sherpa villages and rhododendron forests, with no Lukla flight. From the summit, you can see a long line of Himalayan giants including Everest.
Highlights
- Sunrise panorama from Pikey Peak.
- Quiet Sherpa villages and monasteries.
- Rhododendron forests in spring.
- Few trekkers, even in peak season.
Route
Drive from Kathmandu to Dhap or a nearby trailhead, then walk via Jhapre to Pikey Base Camp, climb Pikey Peak for sunrise, and continue via Junbesi or return by road.
Difficulty
Moderate; the summit climb is steep but non-technical. Altitude is lower than Everest Base Camp.
Best time
October–December for clear views; March–April for rhododendrons. It's also a good winter trek.
