Hotels in Nagarkot: Himalayan Sunrise Stays near Kathmandu

Nagarkot, at about 2,175 m on the eastern rim of the Kathmandu Valley, is the classic place near Kathmandu to watch the sun rise over the Himalaya. Its hotels are spread along the ridge, most with terraces or rooms facing north towards the mountains. One night is enough for sunset and sunrise; two lets you walk down to Changunarayan or Dhulikhel.

Four-star

• Club Himalaya by ACE Hotels, Windy Hills: a long-established hotel with wide views from its terraces.

• Kavya Resort (The Leaf Hospitality), Mandan Deupur, on the Kavre side of Nagarkot.
• Many simple view lodges along the ridge, popular with hikers on the Chisapani–Nagarkot trek.

Tips

• Views are clearest from October to April; in the monsoon, the peaks are usually hidden.
• Nights are cool even in spring; bring a warm layer for sunrise.
