Samagaun (Sama Gaon) is a village of stone houses and mani walls at about 3,530 m in the upper Budhi Gandaki, directly beneath Manaslu (8,163 m). Its people follow Tibetan Buddhism. Most trekkers spend two nights here to acclimatise.

Quick answer: Acclimatisation hikes include Manaslu Base Camp (about 4,800 m), Pungyen Gompa and the glacial lake Birendra Tal. The Manaslu and Tsum areas are restricted: you need a restricted area permit and a licensed guide. Since 22 March 2026, solo trekkers can get the permit.
