Rani Mahal stands on a cliff above the Kali Gandaki in Palpa. It was built in 1893 by Khadga Shumsher Rana in memory of his wife Tej Kumari, which earned it the nickname the "Taj Mahal of Nepal". Its European-style white façade looks striking in the forested gorge.
