On Bhaktapur Durbar Square, the 55-Window Palace was the royal seat of the Malla kings, its upper storey lined with a famous row of carved wooden windows; it was remodelled under King Bhupatindra Malla in the late 17th century. Beside it, the gilded Golden Gate (Sun Dhoka), made in 1754, is considered one of the finest pieces of metalwork in the Kathmandu Valley.
