Devdaha, east of Lumbini in Rupandehi, is revered as the capital of the ancient Koliya kingdom and the maternal home of Queen Maya Devi, mother of the Buddha, and of Prajapati Gautami, who raised him. Tradition says Maya Devi was travelling from Kapilavastu to Devdaha when she gave birth in Lumbini.
