High on a hillside in Gorkha district, Barpak is one of the largest Gurung villages in Nepal. It was devastated in April 2015, when the epicentre of the great earthquake lay close by, and most houses collapsed. In the years since, the village has rebuilt, and today it welcomes visitors with homestays, Gurung culture and views towards the Manaslu range.

Barpak has a long tradition of service in the Gurkha regiments: it is the home village of Gaje Ghale, awarded the Victoria Cross in the Second World War.

Quick answer: Barpak is reached by road from Gorkha (a few hours by jeep). Stay in a homestay, learn about the village's rebuilding, and walk to nearby viewpoints. Best time: October–April.
