Sanu Sherpa Becomes the First Person to Climb All 14 Eight-Thousanders Twice

21 July 2022

On 21 July 2022, Nepali climber Sanu Sherpa became the first person ever to climb all 14 eight-thousanders twice. He completed his first round of the 14 between 2006 and 2019, becoming only the 42nd person to do so, and then repeated the feat, finishing in the Karakoram of Pakistan.

In short: Sanu Sherpa completed a second ascent of all 14 peaks above 8,000 m on 21 July 2022, a mountaineering first.

The quiet record-breaker

Like many Sherpa climbers, Sanu Sherpa achieved most of his summits while working as a guide, helping clients to the top. His record highlights the skill and strength of Nepali climbers, who are the backbone of Himalayan mountaineering. See our Sherpa culture guide.
