Early on 8 July 2025, a sudden flood originating from the Lhende river in Tibet surged down the Bhotekoshi into Nepal's Rasuwa district. It swept away the Miteri (Friendship) Bridge linking Nepal and China at Rasuwagadhi, damaged the dry port and several hydropower plants, and killed at least nine people, with around 19 missing.

In short: a flood from Tibet on 8 July 2025 destroyed the Miteri Bridge on the Nepal–China border and damaged infrastructure along the Bhotekoshi. At least nine people died and about 19 went missing.

A warning

Experts linked the flood to a glacial lake outburst or similar event across the border, and warned that Nepal lacked real-time data-sharing with China on glacial lakes. Just over a year later, on 26 August 2026, a far deadlier flood struck the same river. See our 2026 flood report.
