The results of Nepal's 2021 national rhino count, carried out from 22 March to early April, were made public at Chitwan National Park on 10 April 2021. The count found 752 greater one-horned rhinoceros, 107 more than the 645 counted in 2015, an increase of about 16.5%.

In short: Nepal's rhinos grew to 752 in 2021: 694 in Chitwan, 38 in Bardia, 17 in Shuklaphanta and 3 in Parsa.

A conservation success

In the 1960s, only around a hundred rhinos survived in Nepal. Strong protection, community support and anti-poaching efforts have helped the population recover, and Nepal has recorded several years of zero rhino poaching.
