Nepal Resumes Visas on Arrival and Ends Quarantine for Vaccinated Travellers

23 September 2021

From 23 September 2021, Nepal resumed issuing tourist visas on arrival and dropped the seven-day quarantine for fully vaccinated visitors who had a negative PCR test. It was the clearest sign yet that trekking was reopening after 18 months of disruption.

In short: Autumn 2021 saw trekkers return to Everest and Annapurna, though numbers stayed low until 2022–2023. Today, most nationalities can get a visa on arrival with no COVID requirements. See our visa guide.

The rules then

Vaccination had to be completed at least 14 days before arrival, and a negative RT-PCR test taken within 72 hours was required.
