On 22 May 2024, Kami Rita Sherpa, 54, from Thame, reached the top of Everest for the 30th time, extending his world record. He had made his 29th ascent just ten days earlier, on 12 May, while guiding clients.
In short: Kami Rita first climbed Everest in 1994. He passed Apa Sherpa's 21 in 2018 and added a 31st in 2025.
Guiding as a profession
Kami Rita says he climbs for work, not records. His achievements highlight the experience of Nepali guides who make most Everest ascents possible. See Sherpa culture.
