## Wetlands of Nepal

Nepal has **ten wetlands** on the Ramsar list of wetlands of international importance, from lowland marshes to high Himalayan lakes. The first, **[Koshi Tappu](/places/koshi-tappu-wildlife-reserve)**, is one of the best birding sites in South Asia. Others include **Beeshazari Lake** in Chitwan, **Ghodaghodi Lake** in the far west, the **lake cluster of Pokhara Valley**, including [Begnas](/places/begnas-lake) and Rupa, and the high lakes of **Rara**, **Phoksundo**, **Gokyo** and **Gosainkunda**.

Winter (**November–March**) brings migratory ducks, waders and cranes to the lowland wetlands.
