## Easy treks in Nepal for beginners: the complete guide

You don't need to be a mountaineer to trek in Nepal. Some of the most rewarding walks in the Himalaya are short, stay at moderate altitude and follow well-made trails between comfortable lodges, with views of 7,000 m and 8,000 m peaks. These **easy treks** are perfect for first-time trekkers, families, older walkers and anyone with only a few days.

This guide explains what makes a trek "easy", the best beginner treks, how to prepare and what to expect.

## What makes a trek easy?

- **Short days:** usually two to six hours of walking.
- **Moderate altitude:** mostly below about 3,200 m, so altitude sickness is rarely a problem.
- **Good trails and lodges:** well-used paths and teahouses with hot meals and private rooms.
- **Short overall length:** two to seven days.

Nepal's trails are rarely flat, though: expect stone steps up and down. See our [trek difficulty grades](/blog/trek-difficulty-grades-nepal).

## Best easy treks near Pokhara

- [Australian Camp and Dhampus](/australian-camp-dhampus-trek) (2–3 days): the easiest trek with big Annapurna views.

## See Everest on an easy trek

The [Everest View trek](/everest-view-trek) flies to Lukla and walks to Namche Bazaar and Tengboche for views of Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam, without going to high altitude for long.

## How fit do I need to be?

If you can walk for four to five hours with breaks, including some uphill, you can do an easy trek. Prepare with regular walks, stairs and a few longer hikes in the weeks before. A porter can carry your main bag, so you only need a light daypack. See our [best treks for beginners](/blog/best-treks-in-nepal-for-beginners).

## What to expect each day

Most days start with breakfast at the lodge, a morning walk, lunch at a village teahouse and an afternoon arrival at the next lodge. Evenings are spent around the dining-room stove with other trekkers. Read about [teahouse trekking](/blog/teahouse-trekking-in-nepal).

## What to pack

Comfortable walking shoes or light boots, layers including a warm jacket, a rain jacket, sun protection, a water bottle and a sleeping bag or liner. See our [packing list](/blog/nepal-trekking-packing-list).

## Common mistakes

Walking too fast, not drinking enough water, and packing too much are the usual problems. See our guide to [first-time trekking mistakes](/blog/first-time-trekking-mistakes-nepal).

## Best time

October–November and March–April are best. Most easy treks are also excellent in winter (December–February), when skies are clear and trails are quiet. See our [winter treks](/category/winter-treks-in-nepal).
