_Published 24 July 2026_

Turquoise water beneath the glaciers of Tilicho Peak: [Tilicho Lake](/places/tilicho-lake) is one of the most spectacular sights in the Annapurna region and a popular side trip from the Annapurna Circuit.

**Quick answer:** Tilicho Lake lies at about **4,919 m**, making it one of the highest lakes of its size in the world. From **Manang**, it takes about **three days** via Shree Kharka and **Tilicho Base Camp** (about 4,150 m), with a steep morning climb to the lake. The trail crosses landslide-prone slopes.

## Route

1. Manang to Shree Kharka.
2. Shree Kharka to Tilicho Base Camp, across scree slopes.
3. Early climb to the lake and return to base camp or Shree Kharka.

Most trekkers then rejoin the circuit to cross Thorong La. See our [Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake trek](/annapurna-circuit-tilicho-lake-trek).

## Difficulty

- High altitude: acclimatise in Manang first.
- Landslide sections: cross early and quickly, following your guide.
- Steep climb to the lake on the final morning.

## Best time

October–November and April–May. The lake may be frozen in winter, and the trail can be dangerous after snow.

## Combine it

Tilicho is also great acclimatisation for [Thorong La](/blog/thorong-la-pass-guide).
