# Khaptad National Park: Meadows and Spirituality in the Far West

_Published 7 May 2026_

Far from the tourist trail in western Nepal, [Khaptad](/places/khaptad-national-park) is a rolling plateau of meadows, forests and wildflowers with a peaceful, spiritual atmosphere.

**Quick answer:** Khaptad National Park was established in **1984**, on the advice of the hermit **Khaptad Baba**, who lived and meditated here for decades; his ashram is near the park headquarters. The plateau, around 3,000 m, is reached on a multi-day trek from the far-western hills. It sees very few foreign visitors.
