# Chandragiri Cable Car: Himalayan Views Above Kathmandu

For mountain views without a trek, the [Chandragiri](/places/chandragiri-hills) cable car is one of the easiest outings from Kathmandu.

**Quick answer:** the cable car opened in **December 2016**. It runs about **2.4 km** from **Thankot**, on the south-western edge of the valley, to Chandragiri Hills at about **2,551 m**, in around **9–10 minutes**. At the top are the Bhaleshwor Mahadev temple, viewpoints and the Chandragiri Hills Resort.
