**Himalayan Hiking** is a trekking and tour company based in **Kathmandu, Nepal**. We plan and run treks, tours and mountain holidays across Nepal, and with trusted partners in Tibet and Bhutan. Our team is made up of trek planners, licensed trekking guides and porters, many of whom grew up in the mountain regions where they now work.

We started Himalayan Hiking because we believe the best way to experience the Himalaya is with people who know it as home. Every itinerary is designed by our own team in Kathmandu, and we stay in touch with you and your guide from your first question to your flight home.

## What we do

## How we plan your trip

We believe a good trek starts with an honest conversation. Tell us where you would like to go, how much time you have and how fit you feel, and we will recommend a route that suits you, even if it is shorter or simpler than you first imagined. Our itineraries are built around **realistic walking days** and **proper acclimatisation**, because a trek you enjoy is better than a summit you struggle to reach.

Once you book, we take care of the details: permits, domestic flights, hotels, teahouses, transport and your guide and porters. Before your trek, we meet you in Kathmandu for a briefing and equipment check, and during the trek our office stays in contact with your guide.

## Our guides and porters

Our guides are **licensed by the Government of Nepal** and trained in first aid and altitude awareness. They know the trails, the lodges and the people along the way, and they are your link to the culture and history of the places you walk through. Porters carry your main luggage so you can walk with a light daypack.

We believe that the people who make treks possible deserve fair treatment. We pay fair wages, provide insurance and appropriate clothing and equipment for the conditions, respect sensible weight limits for porters' loads, and never ask our staff to continue in unsafe conditions.

## Safety first

Safety guides every decision we make. We plan gradual ascents with acclimatisation days, check trekkers' health every day at altitude, monitor weather and trail conditions, and change plans when needed. Our guides carry first-aid kits and stay in touch with our office, and in an emergency we coordinate evacuation with your insurer and local rescue services.

## Travelling responsibly

The Himalaya is a fragile environment and home to communities who depend on tourism. We stay in locally owned lodges, hire local guides and porters, encourage trekkers to use refillable water bottles instead of plastic, carry out non-biodegradable waste and respect local customs and religious sites. We want every trip to leave a positive mark on the people and places you visit.
